Yo creo en Colombia |
|
Empowerment is a key concept for an individual. For a nation, empowerment entails a process of nation building, where its citizens understand that the solutions are within their hands.
Colombia, one of the richest and greenest nations on earth, has been led to believe that it is a poor nation.
The initiative "Yo creo en Colombia" identifies and tackles a non-economic barrier to development, which comes with constant attacks on the self-image of a nation and the resulting disempowering effect. The tools it uses or the academic areas from which it draws are neuro-linguistic programming, positive psychology, development, skill building and paradigm shifting. This initiative is a model for other nations, organizations and communities searching for change and for self-determination. A number of other initiatives are in the pipeline for different countries in the world. The “I Believe in…” methodologies build possibilities in the minds of people and build the capacity to take advantage of these possibilities.
Pedro Medina founder and leader of “Yo creo en Colombia”, an NGO with 2,450 volunteers that works on asset-based development, has trained hundreds of persons to spread his vision, reaching around 640,000 Colombians in 157 cities and 26 countries, through thousand of talks and workshops, by educating them on the richness of their country, the power of their people, the opportunities available, and their stake in the whole process. The business magazine “Dinero” chose him as one of the 20 most valuable businessmen in Colombia, he brought the McDonald´s brand into the country, leading the company for 7 years, turning it the top employer of college students. He has been university professor in business strategy, leadership and innovation. He is also a columnist and author. Pedro decided to leave the business world and dedicate the rest of his life to being a catalyst toward an empowered Colombia. Latin Wave is a multiplier of this vision. |
